Certified leaders can also apply for grants to assist with chaperoning and training costs. Projects may request funds to improve county-level programs.

Funds raised also provide college scholarships! Each year, the Council awards $250–$750 scholarships to graduating seniors for technical, community college, or university tuition.

The Pierce County Livestock Judging Team

In January, the Pierce County Livestock Judging Team represented WA state at the 105th Western National Roundup Livestock Judging Contest in Denver, CO. The team consisted of Leah B, Lorelai J, Auna J M. and Mj T. The team participated in a workout and practice as well as other activities hosted by CSU culminating in the contest on Friday, Jan 9. The participants spent the day judging 12 classes of livestock including sheep, goats, swine and cattle. They also had to give 6 sets of oral reasons for selected classes.

The results were fantastic. WA State finished 11th out of 20 total states represented. The team results were: 12th Team Overall Cattle 12th Team Overall Goats 9th Team Overall Sheep 13th Team Overall Swine 14th Team Overall Reasons

Congrats to Mj for finishing in the Top 10 for sheep judging.

It was such an amazing time and contest. The team also took the time to dine out together, visit CSU in Fort Collins, take part in a college and career fair, and visit the National Western Stock Show for the first day of their 120th anniversary year!

We look forward to their continued success and future competitions!
