Master Gardeners are giving a series of talks at the UW Tacoma campus for PNW Climate Week:

More Trees, Please! – Tuesday July 14th at 6:00-7:30
Increasing tree canopies in urban areas is an important tool in the fight against a warming climate. This presentation presents an award winning way of creating fast growing, ‘micro’ forests in urban areas. It is called the Miyawaki Method, after its initial pioneer. Includes pictures of successful Miyawaki forests from around the world and right here in the Pacific Northwest.

Presentation for homeowners who want to know what simple steps they can take in designing and maintaining their yard to battle climate change. The presentation is broken down into sections on climate change, lawn maintenance, garden bed design & growing veggies.
Room to Resist: Defensible Zones & Wildfire SafetyThursday July 16th at 6:00 – 7:30
With wildfire risk growing in Western Washington, it’s important to create a defensible zone around your home or property. This class identifies specific risk factors and teaches methods and solutions for using landscaping to minimize ignition zones around your house.
