Ella Amore Mahoney Memorial Scholarship
(For participants in the dog project)

Ella Amore Mahoney had a heartfelt belief in the Pierce County 4‑H Dog Project and the life skills it cultivates in young people — from leadership and responsibility to teamwork and confident dog‑handling. To carry her legacy forward, we are proud to support 4‑H members who show dedication to working with their dogs and who embody these values
In her memory, the Pierce County 4‑H Dog Project awards a $1,000 scholarship to a high school junior or senior pursuing education beyond high school.
Applications with reference letters must be submitted by June 26.

As I come to the end of my senior year I plan to become a EMT/ paramedic. Therefor I am going to Bates Tech to complete this. As a reflection, in the two years I’ve been in I have learned a lot that I didn’t necessarily know from jrotc. It has showed me better ways to work with people, how to handle situations I wasn’t ready for and how to handle stress. All of the thing will be helpful in my profession being I will be working with people a lot and will be in stressful situations as people will rely for me to do the best I can.

I will be attending Whitman College, in Walla Walla, majoring in Mathematics and Statistics.
4-H has given me opportunities to lead and organize a big group, which has helped improve my communications skills and my abilities to work with new people. Through my AMOCAT 4-H club, I have also been able to dabble in many different activities and subjects that I would not have normally been interested in, and I have been shown the value of expanding my horizons.
Through 4-H, I have learned the importance of volunteering and getting out of my comfort zone, whether by picking up a camera or working with new people. In the future, I look forward to continuing to do volunteer work and teaching other people the value of “zooming out” and expanding their interests.
This interdisciplinary lens has also affected my college search by showing me the importance of a liberal arts education for adaptability and a wide breadth of abilities.

This year, I graduate from both homeschool high school and Pierce College through Running Start. I will receive my high school diploma and a Transfer AA in business which I plan to continue pursuing at the University of Washington Tacoma. In my time in 4-H, I have been so lucky to have met so many amazing leaders, both youth and adult, who have helped me along the way and shown me what a good leader looks like. I have also had so many leadership and volunteer opportunities that have changed my life. I have no doubt that I owe so much of my growth, as a leader and as a person to 4-H. So thank you to everyone who helps keep the program running.

Hi I’m Sierra and this is my 6th year in 4-H horse department. Growing up in 4-H has shaped so much of who I am today, both in and out of the arena. After graduation, I plan to take a gap year to continue pursuing horse showing and spending time doing what I love most before attending college to earn my degree in early childhood education and become a teacher. Over the years, 4-H has helped me grow into a more confident, hardworking, and responsible person. Whether it was through showing horses, being part of a team, or helping younger members, I’ve learned leadership, patience, dedication, and how to push through challenges even when things get tough. 4-H has prepared me to be “beyond ready” for life by teaching me skills that go far beyond the show pen, how to communicate, support others, stay determined, and continue growing into the person I want to become.

My post graduation plans include continuing to work in the food service industry & to further my education in horse training & riding.
4-H has helped me learn to serve others better and taught me how to be a good leader. My experiences in 4-H have helped me be prepared for life by learning how to push through hard things & work my hardest to achieve my goals.

I am a member of Amocat 4-H club, and I will be attending University of Washington this fall 2026.
The most important way 4-H has influenced my growth was by introducing me to engineering, computer skills, and leadership skills from a young age. All of these skills will help me as I study Computer Science at the UW.

Kodiak D
After graduation, I will be attending Western Washington University and pursuing a degree in Computer Science, and likely minoring in Music. 4‑H helped me grow by giving me real responsibilities and chances to practice skills I didn’t have before. Through projects, meetings, and working with others, I learned how to communicate better, stay organized, and follow through on commitments. It pushed me to be more confident and more willing to step up when something needs to get done.
My time in 4‑H taught me practical skills I’ll use long after the program, things like problem‑solving, teamwork, and managing my time. Leading activities and completing projects showed me how to handle challenges and stay focused on goals. Because of those experiences, I feel prepared for real‑world responsibilities and ready to take on what comes next.
