Pierce County 4-H Leaders Council Grants

Purpose and Values

The purpose of the WSU Pierce County 4-H Leaders Council grant funding is to empower youth from diverse backgrounds to access 4-H educational experiences through financial support.  We are dedicated to promoting equity by ensuring all eligible youth are informed about opportunities and receive support in completing the grant process. By attending 4-H activities, we aim to foster:

Life Skill Development

We value youth gaining skills in asking for support in education and training. This is why there are questions for the youth to answer in the form. This is a skill that youth will use in their lifetime for seeking scholarships and job trainings. We value youth having the opportunity to develop life skills at events. This is why we ask what they think they will learn. We encourage youth to practice these skills when they return. This is why we ask that they pick an activity to do after the event.

Enhance Project Skills

We value youth learning new skills in their project area and life skills. This is why we ask them what they think they will learn and how they think they will use those skills when they return.

Community Service and Leadership

We value youth doing community service. We value youth using their leadership skills after an event for their club, community, country, and my world. We know these events build leadership skills. This is why we ask youth to do something after, which demonstrates community service or leadership.

Encourage Continued Participation in 4-H

We value youth staying in the program to reap the most rewards from 4-H involvement.  We know events help retain youth. We also know that other youth look up to youth who have gone on events and are more interested in going to these events themselves.  This is why we ask youth how attending this activity might help them stay involved with 4-H when they return.
