Tack Swap 2026

Tack Swap is a fundraiser sponsored by Spokane County 4-H Horse Project Committee. It is our ONLY fundraiser for the year. The money raised is used to sponsor educational clinics, awards and other benefits for the 4-H members.

Consignments for the sale are taken on Friday and the sale is all day Saturday. People bring saddles, bridles, halters, buckets, bits, clothing, boots – just about any horse related items. Local tack supply businesses also sell new tack and supplies. The consignment fee is $5, $10, or $20 depending on the check-in service needed by sellers (details below in the “ONLINE CONSIGNMENT INFO” tab; read “Three Ways to Check-in”) Spokane 4-H Tack Swap earns 18% commission on all sold items; sellers earn 82% on their sold items. The sale starts on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m.

The Tack Swap is held at the Fairgrounds. An area is available to County 4-H clubs (not just horse clubs) to use as BOOTHS to raise money or just to advertise their clubs. Clubs may not sell anything that would compete with our vendors or our consignment items. Clubs also need to bring their own tables for set-up. The Tack Swap is usually held the first part of March. Watch for it! It’s a fun day for shopping for those much needed tack items at greatly reduced prices.

March 27-28, 2026

Tack Swap is the only fundraiser that supports Spokane County 4-H Horse Project. Funds raised support programs like horse shows, clinics, camps, educational events, travel to state and national events, scholarships and more.

Tack Swap Consignor’s Tagging Guide

Preparing for the sale
  • We only accept CLEAN equine related items:  home decor, toys, clothing, show clothing and accessories, silver halters and jewelry, horse trailers, driving equipment, trail packs and equipment, farrier supplies, hunting supplies, supplements, etc.
  • We do NOT accept:
    • Dirty, smelly, muddy items
    • Dangerous/broken tack or equipment
    • Any Helmets
    • Other domestic pet or livestock items (dogs, cats, bovine, hogs, sheep, etc)

BEFORE THE SALE, Prepare at home:

If a seller resides more than 30 miles from Spokane, email the Tack Swap at Spokane4htackswap@gmail.com to request a parcel to be shipped. Include the quantity of tags needed, the seller’s name and full address. Shipping fees vary upon the weight of the parcel.  4-H Tack Swap kindly requests that sellers cover the cost of shipping.

If a seller is unable to complete ANY of these steps at home, walk-in and Tack Swap volunteers will assist you during Consignment Check-in on Friday, 11 am – 7 pm, Spokane Fairgrounds, Ag Complex A.

Tagging Items: Any items that seem impossible to tag according to the following instructions will be completed by a volunteer at check-in.

  • Use the smallest zip tie possible
  • Utilize any permanently fixed structures on the item to attach the zip tie
  • Leave a loop in the zip tie between the closure points. This allows movement and reduces separation of the tag from the item.
  • Books, buckets, some grooming totes, grooming bottles, and spray bottles: affix the barcode label directly onto the item.
  • If an item is placed into a Ziplock bag, close the bag, punch 1 or 2 small holes below the closure and secure the closure with a zip tie. Affix the barcoded label directly onto the ziplock bag.

Clothing:

  • Zip tie the shipping tag through button or lapel holes, manufacturer tags, lace, loops, zipper pulls, anything that is a permanent loop.
  • Attach matching accessories in a zip-lock bag to the main piece of clothing.
  • Always put a zip tie around the closure of the ziplock bag so it cannot be opened.
  • BOOTS
    • TAG the RIGHT boot  through the loop, LABEL the LEFT boot on the sole using masking tape, a copy of the label, or a blank  label. Write the seller # and item # on the tape/label.
    • Do not zip tie boots together.
    • If boots do not have a loop, the volunteers will assist in tagging the items
  • JEANS/BREECHES/PANTS: zip tie the tag above the REAR POCKET through a belt loop
  • HATS: zip tie the tag to the OUTSIDE of hats where it is visible through holes, spaces, weave, permanent hat band, or liner.  Hat boxes are not guaranteed to stay with the hat.
  • JEWELRY: Place small items inside a ziplock bag, close the bag, punch a small hole below the closure, secure the closure with a zip tie through the hole.
  • MULTI-PIECE CLOTHING SETS
    • On the tag with the Barcode: WRITE 1 of ____ (total # of pieces) For example: 1 of 2, 1 of 3, 1 of 4
    • On blank tags for each piece of the outfit write 1 of ____, 2 of ____, 3 of ____, etc..
    • Include the Seller # & Item # on ALL tags of the multi-set.

Saddles   Zip tie the tag to the RIGHT FRONT CORNER (off side) of the saddle. (Right side as you sit in the saddle)

Saddle Blanket/Pads  Zip tie the tag on the corner of the item through weave, tags, loops, leather wear guard.

Bridles/Headstalls Zip tie bridle sets together through permanent fixtures of the leather: the bit, headstall, strap, reins. DO NOT wad it up. It must hang as if in a tack room.

Splint & Sport Boots

● Zip-tie together through buckles or manufacturer labels.

  • Zip tie the tag through the joining zip tie.

● Make sure there is a left and a right boot and they are a matching pair.

● DO NOT wrap the boots one inside the other. People need to be able to try on and see both boots.

Turnout blankets

● Attach tags toward the front of the blanket

●  If a blanket has a bag, UNZIP THE BAG & attach the tag to the item itself.

Whips/Crops

● Attach tags at the top of the solid part of the whip/crop.  If it has a long tail, do not attach it to the end of the tail.

●Tags must not be able to slide off the whip.

Polo and Standing Wraps

● Roll them up tightly, place them inside a large ziplock bag.

● Close the bag, punch a small hole below the closure, and secure the closure with a zip tie through the hole.

● Affix barcode label onto the ziplock bag.
