Temporary Changes to Our Operations

***UPDATE April 2, 2020***

WSU Extension is committed to continuing its Land Grant mission and services, while mitigating risk to WSU personnel, program participants, and the public. We were instructed to make decisions upon the best available information at the local level regarding operations and events. Based on recent communications with WSU, our local Benton Franklin Health District, and recent State restrictions for at risk populations, we are canceling all in-person volunteer meetings and events which include those in schools, gardens, private businesses and other.

The Benton and Franklin County offices are still open via phone and email contact but closed to the public or walk-in traffic. We encourage you to call us if you have questions.

Some actions we are doing to mitigate impact and continue services are:

· Plant Clinic: We will still allow pictures and descriptions to be submitted via our website forms. However, we anticipate the inability to answer all questions as we often need to see actual samples. WSU faculty and staff will try to answer questions as best as possible on a case-by-case basis. We will NOT be accepting samples into the office and no Master Gardener volunteers will be staffing the clinic for live samples.

· Gardening and Food Safety Education: Please visit resources on our Benton Franklin website and WSU Publication website and WSU Learning Library to download/order publications. Specific food safety questions can be emailed to Lizann Powers-Hammond

· 4-H: Club meetings should be done via zoom or telephone. Lauren Romney is able to assist with that, 509-240-9510.

· Master Gardener committee meetings and education: Many of the volunteers are in a high-risk population, therefore we are cancelling any committee meetings, group gardening, or education events. As directed by the Benton Franklin Health District and WA State we are following the ‘Stay Home – Stay Healthy’ and social distancing policies. If you would like to meet via zoom (webinar), Robby Burns can assist you 509-492-2118.
