Introduction to Vegetable Gardening series

The Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties are presenting a series of five spring webinars for those new to growing vegetables in the Northwest. Beginning Thursday, March 18th, these programs will alternate between Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Each webinar has an individual registration link. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the workshop. Master Gardener transplanting into landscape bedPlan Your Garden Part 1
When: Thursday, March 18th at 6 – 7 pm

This workshop will focus on how to get started – first thinking about what you want to grow, then assessing your site and preparing your soils to get started. We will also be looking at the limitations that our sites present for what we want to grow and solutions to working around them.

Plan Your Garden Part 2
When: Saturday, April 3rd at 10 – 11 am

This workshop will address when to get started with putting seeds in the ground. From looking at crucial cues such as first/last frost dates and other environmental signals to how to interpret and use the information from a seed packet.

More Ways to Garden
When: Thursday, April 15th at 6 – 7 pm

This workshop offers further suggestions for how to maximize your garden space. Examples range from vertical gardening to make use of areas above ground to small space gardening for those with limited area to work.

How to Plant
When: Saturday, May 1st at 10 – 11 am

Starting with the basics of planting, this workshop will cover how to plan and where to plant what you want to grow. We will also be talking about the popular square foot gardening method of planting.

How to Maintain
When: Thursday, May 20th at 6 – 7 pm

Now that you’ve got plants growing, what to do now? We will answer some of the common questions that come up – should I fertilize or not? How much do I water? – and offer tips on weed and pest management.
