Welcome to the WSU Extension Pierce County Master Gardener Program

We are your neighbors and members of your communities. Our priorities inform our efforts to create a more resilient Washington. We are actively engaged in teaching research-based gardening and environmental stewardship practices.

Featured Event: 2026 Annual Plant Sale

Mark your calendar! The Master Gardener Foundation of Pierce County will host their annual Plant Sale on May 2nd & May 3rd, 2026 at the Washington State Fairgrounds. The sale will have thousands of tomatoes, herbs, vegetables, perennials, annuals, trees, shrubs, native plants, and more.

Bring your wagons, carts, or boxes to carry your purchases and meet us at the fairgrounds the first week of May. Credit and debit cards accepted.

Proceeds from this sale benefit the WSU Extension Pierce County Master Gardener Program’s educational outreach.

Ask a Master Gardener Clinics
7, 500+ questions answered over 246 clinics in 12 locations.

Demonstration & Community Gardens
1,800+ pounds of produce locally grown & distributed to Food Banks.

Speakers Bureau 50 Presentations at the Pierce County Library System and to local Garden Clubs.

Overall, our 360+ WSU Extension Pierce County Master Gardener volunteers engaged with over 10,000 adults and 2,000 youth in 2024.

All our horticulture and environmental stewardship education was delivered FREE of charge.

Beneath an urban canopy

The Ravenholt Urban Forest Health Lab at WSU’s Puyallup Research and Extension Center is helping address Tacoma’s shortage of urban trees. With a tree canopy of 20 percent, Tacoma trails Seattle (28 percent) and Bellevue (37 percent), making it the least treed urban area in the Puget Sound region.
