C-J NielsenC-J Nielsen, Washington State Master Gardener of the Year

WSU Extension Island County Master Gardener C-J Nielsen was named the 2021 Washington State Master Gardener of the Year. The prestigious award from the Master Gardener Foundation of Washington State recognizes an active WSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteer that has demonstrated their commitment to the Master Gardener Program by providing leadership at the county and state levels, having had significant statewide or broader impact on the program, and having made a lasting contribution to the Master Gardener Program.

C-J became a Master Gardener in King County in 2006 and has been an Island County Master Gardener since 2012. She was a board member of the Island County Master Gardener Foundation and served as President for three years. C-J also chaired the Whidbey Island Gardening Workshop for five years and then led the Master Gardener Advanced Education Conference for the past two years.

C-J has had a great impact on the Master Gardener program through her volunteer service. Thank you C-J for helping gardeners in Island County and beyond become more knowledgeable about gardening, supporting habitat for wildlife and pollinators, and protecting our natural resources.
