Composting Education Workshop Series: Bokashi Composting
This workshop is one of four hands-on composting classes focused on different composting systems: vermicomposting, bokashi, hot composting, and cold composting. This session takes a deeper dive into Bokashi composting, an indoor, fermentation-based method well suited for many households and living situations.

Participants will learn what Bokashi composting is, how the system works, and how it differs from other composting methods. Through guided instruction and hands-on learning, you’ll explore the full Bokashi process—from setup to use—while building realistic expectations for how it can work in your own home to divert food scraps and organic waste from the landfill.

What you’ll learn:

  • What Bokashi composting is and how the fermentation process works
  • How to set up a Bokashi system, including DIY options
  • Step-by-step guidance on managing the process
  • Common troubleshooting tips and how to avoid common mistakes
  • How to make your own Bokashi bran

Why attend?
Bokashi composting plays an important role in reducing food waste, supporting soil health, and expanding access to composting for people with limited outdoor space. This workshop will help you:

  • Understand the environmental benefits of Bokashi composting
  • Gain practical skills you can apply immediately
