4-H Family Hike Day – Food Smart Families Event

Dinner! Scavenger Hunt! & Trail Fun!
Spend an evening enjoying a causal hike (approximately 2 miles) through Snow Mountain Ranch’s trails, exploring nature, searching for scavenger hunt items, and enjoying trail dinner options that are perfect for light hikes.

This free, causal event is open to any family group with youth or friends group. Participants should register ahead of time by emailing their name and group size to alison.white@wsu.edu or by calling WSU Extension at 574-1600. Register early! The first 24 participants to register will receive a free cooling neck bandana! In addition, all participants will receive healthy living freebies and there will prizes for scavenger hunt challengers.

A healthy, trail worthy dinner will be available free of charge to all participants during the event, and will include vegetarian and vegan choices in addition to meat options.

Remember to:
– Dress for the weather
– Wear sturdy tennis or hiking shoes
– Bring a full water bottle
– Sunglasses and/or a hat
– Backpack to carry your meal and water.

We will meet at the Snow Mountain Ranch parking lot at 5pm, prep and pack our dinner options, and then hit the trail.

To get to Snow Mountain Ranch from Yakima travel west on Summitview Avenue, turn left onto Cowiche Mill Rd, and after 2.5 miles turn left at the Snow Mountain Ranch sign, which is across from Cowiche Creek Nursery. Snow Mountain Ranch is conserved and managed by the Cowiche

Family Hiking Day is sponsored by Yakima County’s 4-H Food Smart Families Program, which promotes healthy eating and activity. The 4-H Food Smart Families is possible thanks to grant funding from ConAgra Foods and the National 4-H Council.
