One of the greatest strengths of 4-H is that it is not a program built in a day, a week, or even a single year. Youth commit themselves to learning, growing, and practicing skills day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year.
This year, two Kitsap County 4-H members will take their talents to the national stage, proudly representing both Kitsap County and Washington State.
Haileigh S. has earned a spot on the Washington State 4-H Equestrian Team as a member of the Horse Judging Delegation. A 4-H member for 11 years and a current 4-H Senior, Haileigh’s hard work, dedication, and passion for horses have earned her the opportunity to represent Washington State in Kentucky.
Joining Haileigh is fellow 4-H Senior Matthew T., who has qualified to compete at the National 4-H Archery Competition in Nebraska. Matthew has been involved in archery for eight years and has developed exceptional skills through dedication, focus, and perseverance.
While their project areas may be different, Haileigh and Matthew share many of the qualities that make 4-H youth leaders stand out. They are often among the first to arrive when help is needed and among the last to leave when the work is done. Both consistently volunteer to support activities, mentor younger members, and serve their community.
Haileigh and Matthew are outstanding examples of the 4-H motto, ‘To Make the Best Better.’ Through years of practice, learning, dedication, and service, they have continually challenged themselves to improve their skills and grow as leaders. Their achievements are not only a reflection of their individual talents, but also of years spent making the best better in their project areas and within the Kitsap County 4-H community.
As they travel to represent Kitsap County and Washington State, they carry with them the values that define 4-H: leadership, responsibility, service, perseverance, and lifelong learning. The Kitsap County 4-H community is incredibly proud of both youth and looks forward to cheering them on.
