Dahlias – New Genetics and More
This presentation will review the latest genetic research on the dahlia species and answer common questions about digging, earwigs, fertilizers, trimming, planting, and more. Come and enjoy and bring your questions.
Presenter Paul Kusche is the Owner, Operator and Hybridizer of Papa Paul’s Dahlia Farm in Olalla, WA and President of the Kitsap County Dahlia Society. Paul started growing dahlias in Sandpoint, ID over 30 years ago, with the challenges of snow, frozen ground and a shorter growing season. In 2019 Paul and his wife Teena came back to the PNW and Olalla, WA to be with family. Papa Paul’s Dahlia Farm has over 250 Varieties and seedling beds for hybridization. Paul is a frequent Garden Club and Master Gardener Seminar Speaker. His latest work, “Powdery Mildew–Nemesis of the Garden”, was featured in the American Dahlia Society Spring Bulletin. Papa Paul’s Dahlias was the cover story in the July 2020 West Sound Home & Garden Magazine. Paul Kusche is also two state Master Gardener having completed training first in Bonner County Idaho in 2015 just after retirement and again in Kitsap County, Washington in 2019 when he relocated back to the Northwest.
