Hydroponics 101 Workshop

May 1, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Hydroponics 101

Hydroponics is the method of growing plants without soil using a mineral nutrient solution dissolved in water.   A plant will grow in soil or water given the right conditions of food source, light, heat and water.   Hydroponics has a distinct advantage in the plants ability to readily absorb nutrients quicker than soil bound plants who have to extract the nutrients from the soil.   There are several ways to grow plants hydroponically.   There will be a demonstration of several types of hydroponics equipment available from the DIY pop bottle, bato buckets, stacking towers, Kratky method (passive growing method using no pumps or electricity) to the commercial farmer using a NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) that has water flowing across the roots 24 hours a day.  This will be a firehose of information that can be used by anyone interested in hydroponics.   There will be plants in different stages of development, in different hydroponic containers so that you can see the process from beginning to end and what happens in-between.
