Value-Added Food Processing Workshop

May 15, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Value-added processed products made at Franklin County Community Development Corporation in Greenfield, MA. The shared processing kitchen makes available label-makers, a generous suite of equipment, dry, cold and frozen storage, and food safety coaching including paperwork and trouble-shooting processing steps.

Market opportunities, licensing, and facility resources

Processing fruits and vegetables into value-added products can improve a farm’s net profitability by extending the marketing season and by opening the door to higher-value markets.

Workshop participants will learn about:
  • Licensing requirements for food processors and food processing facilities from WSDA and Thurston County staff.
  • Available processing facilities in Thurston County.
  • WSU Extension research on the market opportunities for processed frozen fruits and vegetables.
