FAQ

What is Green School?

Washington Green School (Green School) is a Washington State University (WSU) Extension course for people that want to improve their gardening experience by learning research-based horticulture and environmental stewardship practices.

Completion of Green School and the local volunteer training, and fulfillment of 40 hours of local volunteer service is the new path that WSU Extension Master Gardener volunteers take to earn their WSU Master Gardener Volunteer certification.  Green School is also meeting the demand of people that don’t want to become volunteers but still want to become better gardeners and receive research-based horticulture information.

WSU Extension Master Gardeners AND Washington Gardeners have access to the same online gardening training through Green School.

Why is Thurston County not offering the volunteer track in 2025?

WSU Thurston County Extension Master Gardener program is not offering a volunteer track in 2025 because we knew we would not be able to prepare for the new training model while also fulfilling our other program obligations in 2025.

We look forward to welcoming the next class of WSU Thurston County Extension Master Gardener volunteers in 2026.  Information about the volunteer track is on this page, in the above section.
