Continuous Winter Wheat Variety Trail 2026

Introduction

With the increase in broadleaf crops and the desire to establish less summer fallow, farmers are interested in increasing continuous winter wheat production throughout the intermediate cropping region.

Methods: The previous crop was 1,164 lb/ac chickpeas. The study is a randomized complete block design with 4 replications. Each plot was 5’x24’ and was seeded with a Fabro small plot double disk no-till drill on October 15, 2025. All 9 varieties were seeded at 24 seeds/ft2. The plots were fertilized at 64-0-0-0 with a dry blend applied deep between the rows, and a dry blend with the seed at 8-10-0-7. Anthem Flex was applied at 3.5 fl oz/ac with 1 qt/100 NIS post-plant, pre-emerge. In-crop herbicides application was 12 fl oz/ac LV6, 1 qt/100 NIS and 4 gal/ac Stand Xtra.

Data

The 2025 and 2026 continuous winter wheat variety trial at WSU Wilke Research and Extension Farm. The previous crop was chickpea.
