Introduction to Home Composting

March 18 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Learn the basics of composting at home, and what should and shouldn’t go in a home composting system.

The Master Recycler Composter Program of Thurston County offers free in-person and virtual composting workshops monthly from March to October.  Workshops are great for new and experienced composters.

Workshops are free and open to the public.  No advance registration is required for in-person workshops.

Check out the full schedule of composting workshops at https://extension.wsu.edu/thurston/gardening/composting/

Learning how to compost enables you to produce a soil amendment that has many benefits in the garden and keeps waste out of the landfill.

Benefits of using compost include:

  • Improves soil structure and fertility
  • Increases moisture holding capacity of soil
  • Improved plant growth
  • Protects soil from erosion when used as a mulch
