Update: June 6th, 2020
Dear Buyers and Supporters of the Cowlitz Market Sale,
The Cowlitz County Market Sale has been so successful in past years because of your continued support at our sale.
2020 is proving to be a year like no other! Our live Market Sale has been cancelled, but we still have over 70 youth looking to sell beef, hog, sheep, goat, turkey, chickens and rabbits. This year youth will be responsible for selling their own animals through private treaty sales. Youth will be marketing and pricing their own animals. Pricing will be determined by negotiation on whether live weight (what we use at auction) or hanging (carcass) weight will be used. Please note that payments will go directly to the youth producer for the meat and directly to the processor you choose for your cut and wrap.
The Market Sale Committee is committed to helping youth and buyers connect when needed. Attached you will find our 2020 list of Market Sale Youth. We are encouraging our youth to market and sell their own animals. If they have not been able to secure a buyer by July 1st, we have offered to help them connect with buyers. If you are looking to purchase livestock this year and would like us to help connect you to a youth producer, please email us the following information at any time to firstname.lastname@example.org<mailto:email@example.com>.

Looking to purchase: Beef Hog Sheep Goat Turkey Chicken Rabbit
We are grateful to once again work with Matt’s Meats for processing this year. Processing dates have already secured for any large animal purchased from a Market Sale youth. Hogs, goats and sheep are set for July 25. Steer will be on July 27th. The youth producer will get your name and contact information to give to Matt’s Meats. Matt’s Meats will contact you after the above dates to find out your cut order. As always, if you have another option in processing your meat you are also able to do that. Just let your youth producer know which option you prefer when you purchase. As has been our practice, for small animals purchased (turkey, chicken, rabbit) you will need to work with the youth selling the animal for processing or find your own processor. Click here to find Matt’s price sheet for this year.
As a Committee we have also created a Safety Net Fund for this year. This is our effort to still support youth through a difficult time to raise and sell animals, plus provide a way for community members to support our Market Sale youth. Safety Net Funds raised will be divided among all Market Sale youth.
Anyone who would like to donate to the Safety Net Fund can mail checks to:
Cowlitz Market Sale Committee
PO BOX 1523
Castle Rock, WA 98611
Please designate Safety Net Fund on the check. We also have PayPal available on our website, www.cowlitzmsc.org<https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.cowlitzmsc.org__;!!JmPEgBY0HMszNaDT!9eesbfFGpw9oMhySo70NwnZSjhCsMFTeiN-27zJpiy5KhTZjJxGMo5gCv5ivGQ$>, if online payment is preferred.
Since we are not able to proceed with our auction, we will not be accepting Add Ons through the committee this year. The Safety Net Fund will be how we support all our youth.
As in years past, recognition will be given to all buyers and supporters of our Market Sale youth in 2020.
We appreciate your support! Cowlitz Market Sale is conducted by volunteers and it takes our communities financial support to make it successful. Thank you for your past support and we respectfully ask for your continued support. Please feel free to contact the Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org<mailto:email@example.com> with any questions.
Cowlitz Market Sale Committee
Hello Market families and leaders,
This is a reminder to those of you with large market animals (beef, swine, sheep, goat) that you need to email the Market Committee a picture of your market animal, side profile with the youth in the picture, by May 9th. That is THIS SATURDAY that your pictures must be in our email box.
Those that have sent in photos should have received a reply from the Market Committee confirming receipt. If you have not received a reply email from us please resend your photo.
Please send photos or questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cowlitz Market Sale Committee
Hello Cowlitz County Market Sale Exhibitors, Parents and Leaders,
After our April Committee meeting we have an update for you.
For 2020, the Committee approved waiving the Quality Assurance Class. Those who have already taken the online class will not need to take the class again in 2021. Those who have paid the $3.00 for the face to face class can be reimbursed. Please see the instructions below. We HIGHLY encourage everyone to take the online QA course this year AND the QA course next year. The point of the market program is to increase knowledge and grow quality animals. Every opportunity should be taken in advancing your knowledge. If you choose to take the online course after this email has been sent you will also need to take the QA course next year. Giving credit for next year to those that took the QA online course prior to this email is our only way to “refund” their money for this year.
To cancel the current QA registration:
1. Go to https://yqca.learngrow.io
2. Login to the youth’s account
3. Click on the registered course – may have to complete the Metrics –
Program & species questionnaire
4. They will have an option to “Cancel Registration” – which will cancel the
training and refund the payment / re-activate the coupon code.
Weigh ins are postponed until further notice.
The Committee has also decided to do a “virtual” tag for the moment. Youth will need someone to take a profile picture (side view) of them and the animal they intend on selling. The picture will be sent to the Market Committee email address, email@example.com. Please include the name of the youth and the 4-H Club or FFA chapter they are selling under with the photo. Deadline for all pictures to be received by is May 9, 2020. Consider this like the physical weigh in. If we don’t see the picture by end of day on May 9 it will be like you did not show up to the fair grounds to weigh in your animal and we will assume you are not selling your animal. Youth will need to send a picture of them with each animal intended to be “tagged”. If there is a backup animal, that picture also needs to be sent with a note denoting that animal as the backup.
If you have questions please reply to this email or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cowlitz County Market Sale Students and Parents,
With the extension of the school closures and restrictions on groups, the Market Sale Committee will have to postpone Swine, Goat, and Sheep Weigh In to a later date. Remember to keep using this extra time to work with your animals and get a jump start on training. If you have any questions please contact Julia Collins at email@example.com.
