COVID-19 and the Latinx Community:
Skills to reduce stress, stigma, and substance use
This webinar aims to provide an overview on the stress and stigma Hispanic and Latino communities face in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic and how this has caused an uptick in substance use among individuals. This presentation will provide recent research and information on Latinx stress, substance use and mental health trends, and coping strategies that professionals working with the Latinx community can use to help clients build resiliency.

Jessica Martínez
Jessica Martinez graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. She completed her Master of Arts in Counseling with a concentration in Addictions & Clinical Mental Health counseling in December 2020 from Montclair State University. Jessica is a 2019-2020 NBCC Minority Fellowship Program recipient, a program where she has committed to working with and advocating for underserved communities. She has extensive experience working in various capacities with underserved and minority populations. She completed a year-long clinical internship at COPE Center in Montclair, NJ where she worked with Latino youth, families, and adults and provided counseling in both English and Spanish. Currently, Jessica works as a research coordinator at Keller Army Community Hospital and is also a Community Program Specialist at COPE Center. Jessica’s research interests include minority health disparities, health outcomes, and implementing cultural competency in healthcare delivery.
