Master Gardener, Muriel Nesbitt, will discusses the different species and varieties of squashes and pumpkins that are typically grown locally. She will talk about which varieties can cross, and how to approach seed saving, given the possibilities for cross pollination. Nesbitt will describe how to avoid cross pollination, and how to hand pollinate. Attendees will learn about squash bees and steps to take that encourage them to visit your garden. Nesbitt will talk about optimal growing and storage conditions, when to harvest, and how to prepare harvested pumpkins and squashes for storage.
