  • Choice between an Education Award for $1,565,08 or and end of service stipend for $345.80 for 10 weeks of service.

Available Positions

Field Gleaning Position

The Field Gleaning Summer Associate will support Washington State University Clallam County Extension’s Community Health and Food Access Program by expanding field-based produce recovery through farm and backyard gleaning. The Summer Associate will work outdoors throughout the summer coordinating harvests, volunteers, and logistics to ensure fresh produce is safely recovered and distributed. The Summer Associate will coordinate and lead gleaning events at farms, orchards, and backyard gardens; communicate with growers; coordinate volunteers during harvests; collect and record harvest data; assist with loading, transporting, and delivering produce; and support food safety and food waste prevention practices in the field. Food Bank Kitchen and Produce Management Position

Based at the Port Angeles Food Bank, this position will focus on managing gleaned produce once it arrives at the Food Bank. The Summer Associate will support the safe handling, storage, and coordination between warehouse, Food Bank Market, and Food Bank kitchen teams to maximize the use of recovered fresh food. The Summer Associate will ensure rescued produce is properly washed, sorted, stored and prepared for distribution. They will build and maintain attractive, well-rotated produce displays within the Market, support walk-in cooler organization to improve produce flow and reduce spoilage, and track pounds of produce rescued, distributed, composted, or diverted to kitchen use. They will also participate at the Port Angeles Farmer’s Market approximately twice per month to support relationship-building and coordinate end-of-market produce recovery. School Garden Position

The School Garden position will support summer food production at Port Angeles school gardens and a free CSA program serving local families. The Summer Associate will help maintain garden sites, harvest produce, prepare CSA shares, and coordinate volunteers throughout the summer. This includes maintaining school gardens through watering, weeding, and planting; harvesting and washing produce; packing and distributing weekly CSA shares; coordinating student and volunteer work parties; tracking garden yields; and assisting with basic garden infrastructure and improvements.
