Green Thumb – Where Are All The Weeds?

January 26, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Spring may be many weeks away, but there lurks a force to be reckoned with in the garden as soon as the days grow longer—weeds. Join David Whiting for the Green Thumb Garden Tips presentation “Where Are All The Weeds?” and discover where weeds are now and what you can do to keep them at bay when they finally arrive.

The Green Thumb Garden Tips presentation “Where Are All The Weeds?” will be held in person on:

Thursday, January 26th from Noon – 1:00 p.m.

at the Port Angeles Main Library’s Carver Room at 2210 S. Peabody Street in Port Angeles.

We will also be broadcasting the presentation via Zoom.

Some gardeners spend little time weeding with few weeds in their landscapes and gardens. Others spend hours and hours only to have their gardens covered with weeds. Why? David’s class on the science of weeds looks at causes of weed problems and various management techniques to hinder their spread.

David will take the audience through different scenarios on weed prevention, as management depends on the specific weeds and the gardening conditions. “This class gives a variety of weed management techniques that the individual gardener can incorporate, depending on their specific situation,” he said.

David Whiting is an avid gardener and retired Professor and Extension Consumer Horticulture Specialist in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Colorado State University. David has spent most of his professional career at the county or state level leading Master Gardener Programs.

The “Green Thumbs Garden Tips” education series, sponsored by the Washington State University Clallam County Master Gardeners, is held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month through October. In November, December, and January, one lecture is offered. Scheduled presentations are subject to change. Visit the WSU Extension Clallam County website calendar for the latest information on upcoming presentations. For questions, call 360-565-2678.
