4-H Sewing Machine Workshop

Come take part in this great sewing workshop on May16th from 9am-11pm,Open to youth and adults.

Care and Treatment of Your Sewing Machine
When was the last time you cleaned your sewing machine? What about changing
your needle? Does your machine require regular oiling?
Proper maintenance of your sewing machine is essential for quality sewing and
will extend the life of your machine.
In this workshop you will learn:
– How to clean out dust and debris from the bobbin and throat plate areas
– How to oil machine (select models only, some don’t require oiling)
– How and why to change needle
– How to make tension adjustments
– How to troubleshoot when machine isn’t behaving
– Helpful hints for better sewing results
Required for this workshop:
– Working sewing machine (don’t forget foot pedal and power cord)
– The owner’s manual (can be downloaded/ordered online, if missing)
Manual is absolutely required for this workshop
– ½” – ¾” paintbrush (available in any craft store)
– Any accessories that came with your machine (feet, bobbins, mini
screwdriver, etc)
– Spool of all-purpose thread
– Package of sewing machine needles (recommend Schmetz Universal Point
80/12)
– Scissors
