With the global imperative for carbon emission reduction and sequestration, thoughtful landscape design, implementation, and maintenance can play a critical role in positively impacting climate change. Pamela Conrad, CMG Landscape Architecture Principal and Founder of Climate Positive Design, will review the carbon conundrum from a land-based perspective and provide context, tools, and strategies, toward achieving that goal on Thursday, March 11th from noon to 1:00 pm via Zoom.
Conrad will discuss the landscape carbon footprint and the differences between embodied, operational, and sequestered carbon and will provide strategies and tools to evaluate and improve the carbon capacity of landscapes. She will educate attendees on how to minimize emissions of materials, increase carbon sequestration through planting techniques, and improve ongoing operations and maintenance procedures. Conrad will explore the co-benefits associated with low-carbon landscapes, such as biodiversity, biophilia and stormwater management.
