Produce Safety Workshop: Port Hadlock

May 23, 2019 @ 7:30 am - 5:00 pm

Radishes

Description

The National Young Farmers Coalition and the Washington Young Farmers Coalition (WAYFC), in partnership with Washington State University Extension, Washington State Department of Agriculture, and Tilth Alliance, are offering this Produce Safety Alliance Grower training to help familiarize young and sustainable farmers with the Food Safety Modernization Act’s (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule. This subsidized workshop will help you grow food more safely.

Who should attend:

Fruit and vegetable growers! By law, all non-exempt farms will be required to have at least one owner or managerial staff member on site who has attended an approved FSMA Produce Safety Rule (PSR) training such as this one. Even exempt farms will be required to keep certain records, which will be covered in this workshop. And, regardless of your scale, everyone can benefit from learning about food safety practices on the farm!

What will happen:

Powerpoints! Growers will learn from teachers with produce growing experience about Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), co-management information, FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirements and exemptions, and details on how to develop a farm food safety plan. We try to keep it fun and there will be time for questions and discussion, so participants should come prepared to share their experiences and produce safety questions.

After attending the entire course, participants will receive a certificate from the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) that verifies they have completed the training course. To receive an AFDO certificate, a participant must be present for the entire training and submit the appropriate paperwork to their trainer at the end of the course.

Light breakfast, lunch, snacks, and refreshments provided.
