On the Road Tour — Drought Tolerant Delights

Posted by melissa.brown1 | November 27, 2023

MASTER GARDENER PROGRAM — Workshops & Events

Join the WSU Extension Clark County Master Gardener program for an on-the-road- tour and leave the driving to us! As we face hotter, dryer summers, are we doomed to convert our gardens into gravel and cacti? Well, not really, but there is no denying that some of our Asian exotics will need to be replaced. Join us on this tour to see plants that could become your future heat-loving favorites.

Our first stop is Clark Public Utilities. There, Michael O’Loughlin, CPU’s Environmental Sustainability Manager, will do a tour of their VERY drought tolerant site. We will see how good planning can dramatically reduce your water needs over our long, hot summers.

Our next stop is Cistus Design Nursery, a nursery that specializes in international drought tolerant plants. Visiting the grounds is like going on a world tour of beautiful options.

Our final destination is Lux Perennials, a fantasy of an English-inspired nursery, with plenty of drought-loving native plants to replace your fried hydrangeas. Lunch will be on your own at McMenamin’s Cornelius Pass Roadhouse.

Vans depart location at 8:45 a.m. sharp and return at 4:30 p.m.
