WSU Clark County Extension is hosting one of the We Compost pilot program sites at the 78th Street Heritage Farm. This program, a collaboration between Clark County Public Health and Waste Connections, aims to reduce the amount of food waste going to landfills. With several Community Hub locations across Clark County, the initiative offers residents free and convenient food waste disposal options, promoting sustainable waste management practices.
The food waste drop-off locations are particularly beneficial for residents with limited access to composting services, such as those living in apartments and condos, or living outside of residential curbside organics service area.
At the community hub locations food waste will be deposited into green food waste carts. These carts are serviced weekly by Waste Connections of Washington. The food waste is then transported to our commercial compost facility Dirt Hugger in Dallesport, WA. After just a few short months your food scraps will be transformed into nutrient rich compost, ensuring that all of the nutrients in this waste is cycled back into the soil.
