USDA ChooseMyPlate logoA new year is a great time to make healthier choices. The 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans have just been released, and with them, a face-lift for the popular MyPlate website. If you haven’t been back to the MyPlate web site in a while, take another look. An app for Android or iPhone has been added. You can take the new quiz, and with those results, set goals and make plans for healthy food choices. These recommendations include new recipes that consider food and cultural preferences.

Start simple with MyPlate and the new Dietary Guidelines

  • Develop a healthy meal plan and make it a habit. It’s never too early or too late to eat healthfully.
  • Enjoy nutrient-dense food and beverages that reflect your preferences, traditions and budget.
  • Choose foods and beverages from all the food groups that are nutritent-dense, or those foods and beverages that are packed with vitamins and minerals, not just empty calories. Pick vegetables and fruits with a variety deep colors, whole grains and foods high in fiber.
  • Limit foods and beverages higher in added sugars, saturated fat, and sodium, and limit alcoholic beverages.
