Beach Naturalist Training

An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until May 5, 2016
Do you want learn about and explore shorelines and sea life? The Kitsap Peninsula is nearly surrounded by water, making it an amazing place to learn about the stars, clams, crabs, birds, bugs and other cool critters, seaweeds, and plants that live on our beaches. We also discuss Salish Sea oceanography and shoreline living, conservation and restoration.
Field trip options will be offered
- Friday, April 8 from 11-1 – Silverdale Waterfront Park
- Saturday, April 9 from 12-2 – Rockaway Beach, Bainbridge
- Thursday, April 21 from 11-1 – North side of the Kingston Ferry Dock
- Saturday, April 23 from 11-1 – Manchester state Park, Port Orchard
- Thursday, April 28 from 3-5 – Poulsbo Waterfront
This 5 week non-credit training is open to the public and taught by local and regional experts
When: Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm April 7 through May 5
Where: Poulsbo Marine Science Center
Cost: $75, which includes a book and laminated ID cards; scholarships are available
Who: Adults and teens; children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult
During the training and field sessions you’ll have the opportunity to connect with experts and other local people who share your interests. We also provide opportunities for continuing education and involvement in volunteer activities around the county, including acting as a naturalist for community beach explorations and children’s field trips, and conducting beach profiles, sea star monitoring, and outreach at local events.
