On Farm Composting: Part 2 Farm Walk

Join WSU Regional Small Farms for our next Dirt Talk event series all about on-farm composting. This is a two-part series for farmers who want to learn more about building, managing, and making high quality compost for use on your farm. Please see details below for Part 2 which is an in-person farm walk.

On-Farm Composting Part 2 – Farm Walk
Date: June 4th, 2024, from 2pm – 4pm
Location: South Kitsap – Address will be given at time of registration
Audience: Farmers

This second class will be in-person at Rokalu Farms in South Kitsap. Bob Gilby, owner of Rokalu Farm, will be going over composting practices implemented on his farm and discussing:
– Troubleshooting common compost pile problems
– Infrastructure needed
– The farms composting methods (what kind of piles/systems do they make? How much compost is produced?)
– How they utilize compost on-farm
– Q&A with Bob and Farmer Networking

Registration:
Please only register for the farm walk portion of the series if you plan to attend as there is limited space for this event. If you register and are unable to come, we kindly ask that you inform us at least 48 hours before the event so that we may open up registration to other interested farmers.
If you go to register and there are no spaces available, please email jess.sappington@wsu.edu to be put on our cancellation list.

 

 

Please note – If you want to register for both classes in this series: you must select the date of the first class on Brown Paper Ticket registration, add to cart, and then click “continue shopping”. Go back to the registration and select the second date of the class and add that one to the cart. Finally, click “Check out” and you should see registrations for both dates in your cart. About the Presenters:

Kellie Henwood with the WSU Extension Regional Small Farms Program is a certified compost facility operator with the Washington Organic Recycling Council and small farms educator.

Bob Gilby is the owner of Rokalu Farm in South Kitsap and is a certified compost facility operator with the Washington Organic Recycling Council.
