Kitsap Salmon Tours
Celebrate the return of the salmon to Kitsap County on Saturday, November 14. Watch migrating salmon and learn from fish biologists at two locations on Chico Creek in Bremerton: the Mountaineers Property and Chico Way at Golf Club Hill Road.
This free event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at both locations. Activities are for all ages and include informational booths, refreshments, and viewing salmon in the stream. Biologists will talk about the various types of salmon in Kitsap, the salmon life cycle and healthy fish habitat.
“Salmon make an amazing journey from streams in Kitsap County, out to the ocean for several years, and then back to the same stream where they spawn and give life to the next generation of salmon,” says Pat Kirschbaum, Education and Outreach Coordinator for Kitsap County. “Many people visit their local creek every fall and watch for salmon. The return of salmon is one of nature’s wonders.”
Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. A visit to the Mountaineers property involves a hike down to the stream through old growth forest. Stop anytime during 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at either site. Salmon talks will be repeated on the hour.
