(Please see basic Guidelines and Achievement Pin judging sheet for other examples of criteria.)

Cat Program

For this project, the depth of experience and knowledge desired requires 3 years to earn an achievement pin.

Section I Projects and Activities

Enrollment in Cat project is required.

A. Size and Scope (20 points)

Participation in showing the animal throughout the year, including out of county shows. Demonstrate to program leader, a knowledge of sound cat care, health and safety to include all diseases which cats can be vaccinated against. Presentation of a healthy, well-conditioned, well groomed animal in all showmanship events. Participation in contests such as posters, judging, and cat bowl.

B. Learning Experiences (20 points)

Attend clinics and seminars on cat care, judging, diseases, etc. Organize and/or attend vet clinics and breed clinics. Continued improvement in handling, grooming and health care of animal. Attend Project Leader meetings.

C. Knowledge and Skills (10 points)

Presentation at cat clinic (club level acceptable). Area demonstration on cat topics. Participation in cat bowl and judging. Maintain accurate and up-to-date 4-H record book.

Section II – Experiences in Leadership

A. Volunteer Leadership (20 points)

Assist younger members in learning about and preparing animals for show. Leadership in herdsmanship. Assist at county level clinics, shows and workshops. Organize field trips and guest speakers. Participate in work party above club level. Participate in fund raising for cat program.

B. Elected/Appointed Leadership (3 points)

Club and county offices or committee chairs held, committee participation. Position duties should have been fully executed.

C. Promotional Leadership (2 points)

Promotion of 4-H encourages new members to join, talks on 4-H to non 4-H groups, making posters, organizing participation in membership, recruiting, rallies, parades, etc.

Section III – 4-H Citizenship

A. 4-H Citizenship (20 points)

1. Basic Citizenship: Helpfulness and cooperation, good attitude, increase public awareness of responsibilities of the project, participate in fund raising for animal protection agencies, assist at functions to promote public awareness of the project, other club activities. Organize and participate in community service projects in the local area related to cats (i.e. nursing home visits, vaccination clinics, fund raising for cat rescue programs).

2. Other 4-H activities related to the community or service projects, such as food bank, fund raisers, and nursing home visits.

B. Non 4-H Experiences (5 points)

Service activities involved in as a result of church, school, or other non 4-H group participation.

Achievement Pin Applications must be submitted to the Extension Office for county judging with an up to date 4-H Record Book. Those choosing the interview option must turn in the application and will be notified of an interview
time. Judging will be done by two of the following: Program Leader,  Superintendent, Project Leader designated by the Program Leader.
