Washington State Volunteer Recognition

Awards, due dates and forms for nominations:

July 1

The Washington State 4-H Hall of Fame was established in 2002, the 100th anniversary of 4-H and included its first 100 inductees. Each year, 4-H professionals, volunteers, members and their families are invited to nominate an individual for induction. Individuals who have contributed to the realization of significant impacts for youth, served in a variety of capacities within the 4-H organization, or have been affiliated with Washington State 4-H are excellent candidates. The nomination process is detailed within the nomination form found below.

Hall of Fame Nomination

August 1

The Washington State 4-H Alumni Award recognizes outstanding 4-H Alumni that have contributed to the success of the program. Candidates must be at least 23 years of age during the same calendar year they are nominated, be a former 4-H member and made a significant contribution to 4-H, their community OR both. The nomination process is detailed within the nomination form found below.

Alumni of the Year


The Washington State 4-H Excellence in Volunteerism Awards recognizes outstanding 4-H volunteers at various points in their tenure as a volunteer. One of these requires less than 10 years of volunteering (as a certified volunteer) while the other is restricted to those volunteers with 10 or more years as a certified 4-H volunteer. Candidates for these awards are individuals that have made significant contributions to their 4-H program. Anyone may nominate a volunteer for this award; the nomination process is detailed within the nomination forms found below.

The Washington State 4-H Heather Rider Award for Young Adults was created to honor Heather Rider and recognize a young person 19 to 22 years of age for their 4-H involvement, past and present, at the club, county, regional, state, and/or national levels.  who demonstrates a genuine passion for the 4-H Program.

Heather Rider was a Cowlitz County 4-H member who was elected to serve as a State Ambassador and to the State 4-H Advisory Board.  Heather was an exceptional young woman who touched many lives in her 4-H career before her life was cut short in September, 2005. The nomination process is detailed within the nomination form found below.

The Washington State 4-H Volunteers’ Staff Award recognizes outstanding staff members that have provided outstanding service to the volunteers in the 4-H program. Nominations may be submitted from any county leaders’ council. The nomination process is detailed within the nomination form found below.

Volunteers’ Staff Award


The Friend of Washington State 4-H Award recognizes those individuals, businesses, or other organized groups that have contributed to the success of the statewide and/or national 4-H program. The nomination process is detailed within the nomination form found below.

The Outstanding Volunteer and Teen Leader of the Year Awards are county-based awards to recognize those individuals that have exhibited exceptional leadership, contribution and compassion as they fulfilled the duties of their positions during the past 4-H year. County Councils are encouraged to cover the cost of attending the state recognition event for these awards. The nomination process for these awards is detailed within the nomination forms found below.
