WSU Clallam County Extension is now hiring an AmeriCorps VISTA position as a gleaning/food rescue coordinator through Rotary First Harvest (RFH), a Harvest Against Hunger gleaning program. This position will work with current Extension staff and other stakeholders to assess, streamline and further develop gleaning and food rescue efforts in the county to capture fresh produce for the benefit of local food assistance programs. RFH creates a way to enlist local farms, residents and businesses to partner and connect with hunger relief efforts in local communities throughout Washington. For 30+ years, RFH has focused on connecting and collaborating between different groups (farmers, truckers, food banks and volunteers) to gather food that would otherwise go to waste. Harvest Against Hunger has been named “one of the most effective AmeriCorps programs in the nation” – and with good reason. HAH is a collaborative program that places AmeriCorps*VISTA members (known as Harvest VISTA) in communities around Washington to develop gleaning and produce recovery programs to support local hunger relief groups.
