Digging Deeper 2024 – Fall Berry Chores
September 7 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
FreeFall and winter berry care is critical to good fruit production because most berry bushes set their fruit buds in fall as days shorten and temperatures cool.
Join Master Gardener Jeanette Stehr-Green on
Saturday, September 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
for “Fall Berry Chores”
at the Master Gardener Woodcock Demonstration Garden to learn about steps you should take now to ensure a good berry harvest next year.
Jeanette will cover the care that is needed by cultivated berries—strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blue-berries—in fall and winter. She will discuss how to prune and trellis your raspberries and blackberries and how to prune your blueberry bushes. Jeanette will talk about when a strawberry planting needs to be replaced. She will also discuss common winter problems that occur with each major berry type and how to deal with them.
Jeanette is a berry enthusiast and enjoys growing, picking, and eating berries! She has grown strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries on the North Olympic Peninsula for over 20 years and enjoys teaching others about growing berries. Jeanette has been a Clallam County Master Gardener since 2003. She writes gardening articles for local newspapers and participates in gardening programs on local radio stations. Jeanette was the 2012 Clallam County Veteran Master Gardener of the Year and has attained Lifetime Achievement status with Clallam County Master Gardeners. She received the WSU Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.
