Rain Garden Workshop

May 11, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

free

WSU Jefferson County Extension is providing a free workshop that will provide all the details needed to build a rain garden in your yard to create a low-maintenance, attractive feature that help keep our waters clean, as well as provide habitat for birds and butterflies. Experts from WSU Extension have developed an extensive set of resources and research based information that will be shared at the workshop.

Rain gardens are landscape amenities that encourage water to soak into the ground instead of running off along the surface and into our waterways. They collect, absorb, and filter stormwater runoff from roof downspouts, driveways, roads, and patios. Rain gardens can be planted with a variety of shrubs, ornamental grasses, and perennials and are often focal points in the landscape that can be easily integrated into a yard.

Point Hudson Rain Garden Work Party

WSU Jefferson County Extension and the Port of Port Townsend are collaborating to install two large Rain Gardens at the end of Jefferson Street at Point Hudson, where large puddles of muddy rain water often form. This will be remedied once the rain gardens are installed. Help us clean up and better manage the water running off the paved areas at Point Hudson by volunteering with us to plant this Rain Garden.

There will be two sessions on Wednesday May 13th, one from 10 – 1 pm and the other from 1-4 pm. For more information and to sign up call 360.379.5610 ext 200. Space is limited.
