Sheep and Lamb Management Intensive

Join Dr. Susan Kerr of WSU Mt. Vernon and NW Livestock and Dairy Regional Specialist with Kateen Fitzgerald of Compass Rose Farms for this hands-on Sheep and Lamb Intensive workshop. Producers who raise/manage sheep, who want to add sheep to their production system, or people wanting more experience handling sheep encouraged to take this workshop.

  • Lamb care
  • Diseases
  • Breed selection, including primitive breeds
  • Nutrition
  • Parasite control management
  • Pasture & housing management
  • Safe Handling practices
  • Observation and animal behavior
  • Ram management
  • Hands-on routine practices (in the field)
    • Hoof trimming
    • Bottle feeding
    • Drawing blood and vaccinations
    • Icelandic Sheep for wool: Demonstration of Rooing

*PLEASE COME WITH CLEAN WASHED BOOTS*

Schedule:

9:00am – Welcome, sign in, registration, coffee/tea

9:30am-Noon – Sheep Handling, lamb care with Kateen and primitive breeds, Rooing demonstration

12:30pm – Lunch

1:00-3:00pm – Parasite control presentation, diseases affecting sheep, breed selection
